Picture yourself in Eritrea, the ‘North Korea of Africa’, or the unrecognised country of Somaliland, on one of these classic YPT tours. You will be in Somaliland and Eritrea for their national day celebrations to experience all the sights and sounds of the Horn of Africa. These two YPT signature tours take you to two of the most difficult to get to places outside of North Korea. In 2018 we are hopping across the Arabian Sea to the Yemeni island of Socotra, and we will also be adding new destinations to our expanding YPT Africa tours, so stay in touch for exciting announcements!
Cuba is one of our favourite destinations, and now more than ever it is important to visit a country potentially on the cusp of change. If you’ve seen a military parade or mass dance in North Korea, or national day parades in Eritrea or Turkmenistan, there’s still nothing quite like May Day celebrations in Cuba. This true festival of communism is part military parade part Latin carnival. For a continent so rich in possibilities, stay tuned for new tour announcements for 2018!
Central Asia offers a stunning range of options in terms of culture and scenery. One of the most closed countries in the world, with even fewer tourists every year than North Korea, Turkmenistan is a notoriously difficult country to visit, and therefore one of the most important for YPT! From our office in Almaty, we also organize tours through the archaeological treasures of Uzbekistan and the mountains and lakes of Kyrgyzstan, and hey, why not try to see a rocket launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. One also not very well kept secret is that there are certain other locations we travel to in Central Asia, but you’ll need to send us an email to find out!
Chernobyl was one of the first destinations that YPT made regular trips to and it has since become a mainstay of our international itineraries. What’s more YPT has pioneered travel to the various unrecognised countries of the post-Soviet world, especially Transnistria in Moldova. We also offer week-long tours of Belarus and Georgia and on our now infamous annual Eurasian Adventure tour you can even travel through every single country of the former communist Eastern Bloc and Yugoslavia!
Iran has become another regular fixture of the YPT international calendar, and is personally one of our favourite countries to visit. In 2018 we have even added a skiing tour in the Alborz mountain range not far from Tehran. Fast emerging as another choice destination though is Iraqi Kurdistan – a prospective new nation protected by the Peshmerga. Despite its significance and proximity to probably the most important war currently raging, Kurdistan is famed in Middle Eastern literature as a paradise on earth. To add the icing on the cake, in 2018 YPT will be taking you to the island of Socotra in Yemen, whose natural beauty and uniqueness must be seen to be believed!
YPT spend so much time planning and guiding tours to obscure destinations around the world, but sometimes even we need a tour that is slightly more relaxing or just plain fun. If you want an Asian holiday like this, you can join us in the Philippines or Nepal, Cambodia or Myanmar. With YPT it’s never quite so simple however, we will be taking part in ‘extreme sports’ and watching crucifixions in the Philippines, pursuing Maoist politics in post-Civil War Nepal, looking for Khmer Rouge in jungle towns and spending a unique Christmas in the mountains of Myanmar. And for 2018, we are also going to one of the most difficult places to get to, for the Mt Hagen festival in Papua New Guinea, a tribal celebration that will take you to a totally different world.
Being based in China for so long, YPT have developed an ever-greater knowledge of the country and a passion for the vast array of destinations here. Whether you want to travel to Xinjiang or Tibet, do a road trip through the China-North Korea borderlands, see the Communist history in Yan’an, go urban exploring in Ordos-Kangbashi ghost city or just a short tour in Xi’an or Beijing, our Red China tours offer you a perfect combination with a DPRK tour or as an adventure all of itself.
For 2017, the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, we added more new and exciting destinations in Russia, and there are still more surprises in store. From Chechnya and South Ossetia in the Caucasus, camping out in the Magadan former gulag in the Far East, taking the train from Beijing to Moscow on the infamous Eurasian Adventure or visiting a wintry Lake Baikal, you can get to know this huge and beautiful country with YPT.
When you choose a holiday destination, it’s always cool to choose an obscure country to see your mate’s reactions when you tell them. But even better, is going adventuring in a place that doesn’t officially even exist! We were the first-ever international tour company to give you the opportunity to travel to some of the world’s unrecognized countries, including South Ossetia, Transnistria, Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Somaliland. These places are on the forefront of international travel and will give you an opportunity to become a true pioneer.
YPT continually expands our list of worldwide destinations, taking you to the least travelled and wildest places there are. Our tours span the length of the globe ranging from Cuba in the Americas, to the Russian Far East and into the midst of the action in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. Each year we strive to add more adventurous destinations around the globe, running research trips to find out the best way to offer you the chance to visit the mysterious corners of the world still untouched by regular tourism. You can be a true pioneer with us as we explore more destinations and we are always on the look out for the weird and wonderful from fellow pioneers. If you have any suggestions for new destinations that you would like to travel to contact us so we can take you on your dream adventure.
