The Baltic States consisting of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with their capitals being popular amongst long weekend holidays makers and partygoers. However, Young Pioneer Tours are here to explore the Baltics Soviet past, hard hitting and informative – we’ll delve deep into history and secret locations unknown to the outside world!
Your journey with us begins in the beautiful capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. We’ll explore the capital learning about life under occupation under the Nazis and Soviets. We’ll take you close to the Belarusian border, to what could be described as the largest collection of Soviet era monuments. We’ll explore Stalin’s World seeing menacing monuments of both Stalin and Lenin towering over you.
We’ll continue further into Lithuania, to the beautiful and painful sites of the Hill of Crosses and Ninth Fort. You’ll also have the opportunity to enter Užupis, a self-declared micronation where your passport is stamped upon arrival.
Once we hit Riga, the capital of Latvia, we’ll explore the historical old town and sample some of the best cuisines and beers in the Baltics. Unlike any other tours, YPT will take you deep into the Soviet confinements within Latvia. Including abandoned secret cities, radio communication installations and missile bunkers. Even today most Latvians are completely unaware of these locations.
Our last country on your adventure is Estonia where you’ll visit the lesser-known towns including Narva right on the border of Russia. You’ll visit Sillamäe – a secret city with Stalinist architecture, which feels more like being in Russia than an EU country! You’ll further explore abandoned ghost towns which use to thrive under the Red Star.
Our Soviet Baltics Tour is unlike any other Baltics tour out there. With on-the-ground research and years of experience in the region, we’ll make your experience in the Baltics like no other!
