Join YPT on a thrilling and unforgettable journey in the far north, as we set sail on our Arctic Adventure cruise from Svalbard to Greenland in September 2024. This expedition promises to be an awe-inspiring exploration of the remote and pristine Arctic region, offering an exceptional blend of breathtaking landscapes and wildlife encounters. Whether you’re a seasoned Arctic adventurer or a first-time explorer, prepare to be captivated by the raw beauty of the Arctic at its finest.
The time of our cruise is ideal to witness the Arctic’s wildlife in action. Keep your cameras ready for unforgettable moments as you spot numerous seabird species, seals, and if we are lucky polar bears, walruses, and arctic foxes, against the dramatic backdrop of Svalbard or Greenland. Our cruise also offers the unique opportunity to experience both the last vestiges of the Midnight Sun and the early appearances of the Northern Lights. As the sunsets become more pronounced, the Arctic skies come alive with a tapestry of colours, making for incredible photo opportunities.
We begin your adventure in the main town of Longyearbyen where you’ll get a feel for the kind of people who live amongst reindeer and polar bears, before setting sail to the towering ice walls of the Raudfjorden, on the north coast of Spitsbergen, which often calve into the sea with a thunderous roar.
As we sail towards Greenland, we’ll be greeted by a world of icebergs and sea-ice as far as the eye can see. We’ll sail past massive glaciers, go into deep-blue fjords and set foot on otherworldly landscapes seldom visited. Our cruise is an expedition trip, which means we’ll try to be out of the vessel as much as possible, hiking or cruising in our Zodiacs. We will have the rare opportunity to do long hikes, up to 12-kilometers long. Shorter hikes are also possible, as well as no hikes if you prefer to relax and simply enjoy the landscape.
Throughout the voyage, we’ll be accompanied by expert naturalists and guides who will enhance our understanding of the region’s geology, flora, fauna, and history.
We’ll be cruising on the m/v Ortelius. It was built as a special-purpose vessel for the Russian Academy of Science and is suitable to navigate in solid one-year sea ice as well as loose multi-year pack ice. Ortelius can accommodate up to 108 passengers and has an abundance of open-deck spaces providing ample wildlife spotting opportunities.
