China Tours

Being based in China we have developed an ever-greater knowledge of the country and offer a wide variety of tours.

We can organise the following for you:

  • DPRK Tour China Add-ons: These tours can be added onto your North Korean tour with us before or after

  • Group Tours with a Chinese/English speaking guide

  • China & Tibet Independent tours: tailor-made for your specific budget, schedule and interest

DPRK Tour China Add-ons:

Xi’an Tour – The capital city of the Qin and Tang dynasties, home to the Terracotta Warriors and starting point for the historic Silk Road, Xi’an is one of the must-see cities of China. Our YPT local guide takes you around the main sights of the city, spending a half-day out at the Terracotta Warriors and Banpo Archaeological Site. We’ll take in the sights and tastes of the Muslim Quarter, exploring the markets and alleyways and visiting the Great Mosque, before we take in a fountain show at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the evening.Watch YPT’s Estela, Matt and Victoria on their eating tour of Xi’an Muslim Quarter here

Beijing Great Wall Tour – So you’re coming to Beijing and have a day to spare, why not make the most of your time in Beijing by heading out of the capital to explore the Great Wall of China? We can organise your very own local English speaking guide and private transportation as you prepare for a must see adventure.

Beijing City Tour – We offer an action-packed 4 night tour of the world’s largest capitalBeijing, taking in all the must see tourist sites as well as some epic exploration of the city’s dusty hutongs (narrow-alley neighbourhoods) and a trip to an ex-military factory cum art district.

Dandong Overnight Tour – The Chinese border town of Dandong is a great city to pre-empt your Sinuiju or DPRK extension. Here you’ll visit the famous broken Friendship Bridge, a North Korean restaurant (with performance), the fantastically-named ‘War to Resist US Aggression and Aid North Korea’ Museum, and watch the daily life of villagers over the Yalu River from the Great Wall itself.

Ordos-Kangbashi Ghost City Tour – If you’ve ever spent any time in a Chinese city you’ll be well used to the throng, walking the night markets where it seems like every conceivable snack is on offer or pushing your way through people trying to sell you things outside train stations. Kangbashi is different, and it is almost a welcome novelty having almost a whole city square, a hospital, train station or apartment complex to ourselves – get in touch for independent tour prices.

Shanghai Tour – We can organize trips with our local partners to tour Shanghai in real style – by motorbike sidecar! Tours can take in all the main sights of China’s biggest city, with its surprisingly rich history. From the French Quarter to the historical Bund waterfront and through the financial centre, a glimpse of Shanghai is a great add on to a DPRK trip.

We’ve included our signature tour of visiting the Ghost Cities of Ordos-Kangbashi, the far west lands of Xinjiang province and Tibet, our long-standing and controversial DPRK Borderlands tour along the North Korean and China border, and our special Revolutionary Sites of China tour where we visit the Nanjiecun People’s Commune, the town of Yan’an, and far out into the countryside of the old ‘red base area’.

China & Tibet Independent Tours:

Our Chinese independent tours are suitable for solo travellers, families, couples, friends, or for people who simply can’t find group dates to match. Our independent tours are very flexible in terms of itinerary and interests. We cater to your budget too! We have local English/Chinese speaking guides available upon request.

To give you a finer example these are the following tours we have organised within the last year:

  • Movie crews filming in Ordos Ghost City
  • Journalists visiting the China-DPRK border
  • Tour for a family who adopted a child from Yanbian and came back to visit their hometown and Chinese foster family
