A Living Heritage of History: With a history that spans millennia, Shandong Province stands as a living testament to China’s rich civilization. The ancient state of Qi once thrived during the Zhou Dynasty, leaving behind a legacy of cultural opulence. As the revered birthplace of Confucius (Kǒng Fūzǐ, 孔夫子), Shandong preserves the essence of his teachings, which have profoundly shaped Chinese society for generations. Here, stories of resilience and transformation echo through time, from the tumultuous times of the Boxer Rebellion to the pivotal moments of the Chinese Civil War.

Diverse Landscapes, Endless Beauty: Shandong’s geography is a canvas painted with diversity. Along its serene coastline, kissed by the waves of the Yellow Sea, golden beaches and bustling ports coexist in harmonious rhythm. Venture inland, and you’ll find yourself amid rolling hills, fertile plains, and the meandering embrace of picturesque river valleys. Ascend Mount Tai (Tai’an), a majestic member of China’s Five Great Mountains, and be rewarded with breathtaking vistas and the hallowed presence of ancient temples.

Jewels of Shandong: Places to Discover: Shandong beckons with an abundance of enchanting destinations, each bearing unique facets of its heritage. Lose yourself in the charm of Qingdao, a coastal gem adorned with European-style architecture and sun-kissed beaches. Here, indulge in the world-famous Tsingtao Beer. It was first brewed by German settlers in Qingdao in 1903 during the German colonial period. Tsingtao Beer is known for its refreshing taste and is now exported to many countries worldwide. The Tsingtao Beer Museum in Qingdao provides insights into the history and brewing process of this iconic beer. [Tsingtao is Wade-Giles Romanization, while Qingdao is Pinyin Romanization. Wade-Giles is the system of Romanization for Mandarin developed from 1867 named after Thomas WADE, Herbert GILES, & Lionel GILES. Pinyin meaning ‘spelled sounds’ was developed by ZHOU Youguang during the 1950ies. Pinyin was adopted as the international standard for Romanization of Mandarin by the International Organization for Standardization (IOS) in 1982, and the United Nations in 1986].
