75th Anniversary Party Foundation Day and Mount Kumgang Tour
This year come join us as
we take part in the massive celebrations happening in Pyongyang for the
75th Anniversary Party Foundation Day celebrations which a military parade has
been confirmed for this day. We’ll also be seeing the mass dance, catching the
fireworks and being involved in any other surprises that are announced during
During our tour in Pyongyang we’ll be
seeing all the must see sights of the capital such as the Mausoleum
where both Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il lay in state, we’ll make our way up to
the top of the Juche tower, ride the deep and mysterious Pyongyang Metro, visit
the Korean War Museum and much much more.
We’ll also head down to Kaesong city.
This city is 8km away from the DMZ that separates North and South Korea.
We’ll then make our way to Panmumjom (the DMZ site) where we’ll meet our own
local Korean People’s Army officer for a detailed tour and history of the site.
After seeing what the west side of the
Korean Peninsula coast has to offer, we’ll head to the east side to visit the
famous Mt Kumgang region and the sunny coast of Wonsan city. We’ll first arrive
in Wonsan, which is a popular holiday destination for Koreans all over the
DPRK. Here we’ll try the very delicious and very fresh seafood caught
along the pier and to spend a special afternoon kicking a football
around, playing frisbee and swimming with the local families. We’ll also have
time to explore the newly renovated International Children’s Summer Camp.
The following day we’ll head to Mt. Kumgang and hike Kuryong falls and explore the gorgeous Samil Lagoon. With the Autumn season setting in, Mt. Kumgang is particularly stunning during this time of the year, featuring vivid and multi-coloured green, orange, red, brown foliage. During our two evenings in this extremely scenic region, we’ll spend the night’s at a lesser-visited hotel and explore everything this region has to offer before heading back to Pyongyang and concluding the tour in Beijing.
This is our only group

Meet your YPT guide at 1:30pm at the City Line Hotel near Beijing Railway Station found here. During this meeting, we’ll go through the tour’s itinerary, receive DPRK visas and tickets, as well as a great chance to meet your fellow travellers and to discuss any other questions you may have about the DPRK.
Train takers depart Beijing Central station at 5:25pm for the 24 hour sleeper ride to Pyongyang.
Friday 9th October
Train group arrive at Dandong at 7:00am for Chinese border control then depart for Sinuiju at 10:30am for the extensive border control from the DPRK side
Flight takers depart Beijing Airport Terminal 2 on Air Koryo at 2:00pm (meet the group at Air Koryo check in counter).
Flight group arrive in Pyongyang at 5:00pm to a warm welcome from your Korean guides.
Train group arrive at 6:45pm to an equally warm welcome.
Dinner at a local Korean restaurant on Ryomyong Street.
Check in and overnight at the Sosan Hotel.
In the evening your YPT guide will show you around the hotel before taking you for drinks and to get to know your Korean guides.
Saturday 10th October – 75th Anniversary of Party Foundation Day
Walkthrough Mansudae fountain park and see the mosaic pictures of President Kim Il Sung and the leader Kim Jong Il.
Visit Mansudae Grand Monument – the two large bronze statues of President Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il overlooking the city (optional extra- you can present flowers if you wish: small bunches are 2 euro, larger ones 4).
Foreign Language Bookshop – with a large selection of books in English and other European Languages as well as other souvenirs followed by a short walk to:
Kim Il Sung Square the central square of Pyongyang city and the place where all the action happens.
Pyongyang Metro – ride 5 stops on the famous Pyongyang Underground!
Exiting at the Arch of Triumph – the largest Victory Arch in the world, built to celebrate the triumphant return of Kim Il Sung after the Anti-Japanese war.
Lunch at the Moran Hill Restaurant
Walk up along Moran Hill located in the heart of Pyongyang. Here the locals visit the park to celebrate today with their families and friends with BBQ, dancing, singing and drinking. Fantastic opportunity to soak up the atmosphere.
Special celebratory events (optional: approx 20 euros) – Yet to be confirmed but we will take part in any events that are possible for tourists to attend. These may include a circus performance, red orchestra, or possibly some other surprises.
Participate at Mass Dance ceremony held at the monument. A fantastic unique photo opportunity! Also don’t be shy to jump in and dance with the locals!
Trip highlight – Watch the military parade
Dinner at a local restaurant to try the famous Pyongyang cold noodles or Korean Bibimbap with a special performance from the waitresses
We’ll gather in Kim Il Sung Square to watch the fireworks amongst the locals to celebrate today’s event.

Sunday 11th October
Kumsusan Palace of the Sun – The mausoleum for the Great Leader President Kim Il Sung and the Dear Leader Kim Jong Il.
Revolutionary Martyr’s Cemetery – The resting place of the greatest of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, each grave features a bronze bust of the hero laid to rest within.
Lunch at the Gold Cup restaurant
Korean War Museum – Let the expert local guide show you around the enormous museum featuring dioramas, locally used weapons, tanks etc, and captured American equipment!
USS Pueblo – The only US Naval Ship still held captive by another nation.
Juche Tower – Monument to the everlasting Juche Ideology (optional 5 euro to go to the top).
Party Foundation Monument – this monument marks the 50th anniversary of the Worker’s Party of Korea built in 1995
Visit Kwangbok Department Store – here is where most of the middle class in Pyongyang shop for local goods. It’s also our chance to obtain local DPRKorean Won!

Monday 12th October
Drive to Kaesong City (2 hours) – this ancient city is only a stone’s throw away from the DMZ.
Panmunjon DMZ Village- see the DMZ and the treaty and conferences rooms where the armistice was signed all in the company of a friendly KPA officer guide (You can also take pictures of soldiers here!)
Koryo Museum- the oldest university in Korea and now a converted museum of local history. Also the site of the best propaganda and stamp/postcard shop in the DPRK!
Lunch at the Thongil Restaurant in Kaesong City – try your hand at traditional Korean Pansangi – a series of dishes served in bronze bowls. (Optional extras: Dog soup 5 euro, Ginseng Stuffed Whole Chicken 30 euro – can be split between several).
Visit the Concrete Wall observatory – here we’ll see the wall built by the South Koreans to prevent any possibility of an attack.
Drop by Sariwon City (Capital of North Hwanghae province) to walk in the local folk custom park and view the city from the mountain top pagoda. You can also try locally brewed Makkoli in a local bar.

Tuesday 13th October
Drive to Wonsan City – the best beach city in DPRKorea! 5 hours driving in total including a rest/scenic stop at:
Arrive in Wonsan, check into the Tongmyong hotel
Lunch at a nearby restaurant, famous for its locally caught fresh seafood
Songdowan International Children’s Union Camp- This recently renovated summer camp was designed for children both in the DPRK and for international guests. It holds a small water park, dormitories, aquatic centre, aviary, track ‘n field and much more.
Swim at Wonsan beach and hang out with the locals!
Walk along the pier to Chok Islet where the locals will be fishing, drinking and enjoying BBQ – we’ll have the chance to eat some locally caught seafood on the pier! optional 5 euros

Wednesday 14th October
Head further south towards the DMZ to Mt. Kumgang (2 hours).
Stop at Samil Lagoon for breathtaking photos and refreshments.
Lunch at Tanpung Restaurant.
Check in to the Outer Kumgang Hotel – this hotel was renovated by South Koreans with spectacular views of the Mt. Kumgang ranges.
Hike to Kuryong falls and Sanpil Ponds – the most famous scenic place in the Mt. Kumgang region with absolutely stunning and surreal views of multi-coloured Autumnal leaves and crystal clear rock pools.
Exotic dinner and drinks nearby the hotel whilst taking in the breathtaking views.

Thursday 15th October
Breakfast at Outer Kumgang Hotel
Sea Kumgang – An area famous for its beautiful lagoons and spectacular beaches. This area is also located inside the Korean DMZ giving us a chance to visit another area of the DMZ where very few tourists make it.
Scenic picnic lunch on the shores of Kumgang sea.
Kumgangsan Revolutionary History Museum – A museum dedicated to the Anti-Japanese struggle in this region of the DPRK.
Stop by Mt. Kumgang Natural Spa – here you can get a deep massage or soak up the natural spring water – optional and extra cost.

Friday 16th October
Breakfast and checkout of Outer Kumgang Hotel
Begin our drive back to Pyongyang (7 Hours)
Stop at Ulim Waterfall for a picnic lunch.
Visit Meari Shooting Range – this shooting range has recently been renovated to include indoor shooting with pistols, rifles or archery! 50 US cents per bullet.
Stop by the Mansugyo Beer Bar for some refreshments with the locals.
Dinner at Liberation restaurant.
Overnight at the Chongnyon Hotel to experience another hotel in Pyongyang! This hotel was built for the World Youth Games back in 1989 and has Pyongyang’s only outdoor swimming pool that tourists can jump into!
Saturday 17th October
Flight members depart at 9:00am for Beijing on Air Koryo. (Arriving at 10:00am Beijing time).
Train members depart at 10:25am for Beijing on train K28.
Sunday 18th October
Train members arrive in Beijing Railway Station at 9:00am.
