Join YPT for our yearly trip and homage to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. If you have been on and enjoyed a DPRK or Cuba tour with us, then this is the trip for you. We do it socialist government style by meeting people very involved in the ongoing revolution, the mausoleum of Mr Chavez, and more socialist art than you can shake a stick at, all the while staying at the former Hilton, the very North Korea-esque Alba Hotel. We also take time in Caracas to check out the opposition take on things, as well everything there is to do with Simon Bolivar.
The second part of the trip has us flying down to Ciudad Bolivar, a colonial city where independence was declared before embarking on a plane geeks dream, 6 pax propeller planes up to Angel Falls.
The Angel Falls part is no less adventurous with us taking a boat up to the falls and camping out in the jungle for 2 nights before transferring back to Caracas via Bolivar.
Venezuela is changing quickly with elections planned in a few years that could reverse everything. Combine this with the fact that it is crazily cheap there at the moment and there really isn’t a better time to visit the country.
Trip can be done as standalone, or combined for great discounts with our Cuba May Day and Haiti Extravaganza.
Guests arrive at their own schedule (or from Havana) to be picked up by the local guide at the airport
We transfer to the former Caracas Hilton, now known as the Alba Hotel. If you’ve enjoyed hotels like the Yanggakdo, or Nacional in Cuba then this will truly give that state hotel feel

Friday 22nd April
Up nice and early for our 8 am flights to Angel Falls aboard the 6 seater prop planes. A truly amazing experience.
The Angel Falls are located impenetrably deep inside Canaima national park. Your tour begins with an impressive flight in a light aircraft to the camp, close to the Laguna de Canaima, from which you can see the beautiful Hacha Falls.
After a tasty local lunch in the indigenous village you will be taken across the lagoon and past the Hacha falls in a small boat. From this side of the lagoon you will walk along the pink sand banks and up, through the jungle, to the majestic Sapo Falls. From here you can swim in the lake before walking up through the jungle and behind the falls and enjoy the scenery through the powerful curtain of water.
Dinner at the camp before falling asleep in your private room to the sound of crickets.
Saturday 23rd April
After breakfast at the camp you will walk through the jungle before taking a motorized canoe along the Carrao and the Churún Rivers, to the spectacular Angel falls. As you travel along the rivers you have time to take in the lush scenery and the dramatic Tepuys and enjoy a light lunch.
Only when you arrive at Devil’s Canyon can you see the Angel Falls cascading over 1km from the top of the Auyán-Tepuy to the Rio Churún. From here we will walk up through the jungle for an hour to the Mirador Laime vantage point and then down to the rock pools near the base of the falls where you can swim in the fresh water.
At night you will eat a delicious, freshly prepared meal at a camp close to the falls before falling asleep in your hammock to the sound of the falls.
