Friday 8th December – Brazzaville

Morning

• Arrival at your own leisure in Brazzaville and transfer to hotel OR: arrival from our DR Congo by boat
• At midday we meet the rest of our group before heading for a city tour to explore the capital of Brazzaville – the largest and capital city of the Congo Republic.
• No trip to Brazzaville is complete without visiting Nabemba Tower – this is the highest building in the country. The tower is quite controversial from its construction to maintenance.
• Visit St Anne Basilica – a beautiful catholic church in the centre of the city which was constructed in 1943.

Afternoon

• Lunch in Brazzaville.
• Explore the Pierre Savorgnan de Brazzaville Memorial.  The memorial is dedicated to an Italian-French explorer who founded Brazzaville.  What makes Brazzaville unique compared to other former colonised African republics is that they kept the French capitals name.
• Meet and greet with the Sapeurs – locals dressed up in flashy clothes as they walk down the streets in order to be seen. We’ll meet several of them and make sure that we have plenty of time for photos.  What’s great about this opportunity is that you can interact and ask more questions about their culture.
• Dinner and drinks in the bustling capital of Brazzaville to welcome us on the first night.
• Overnight stay in Brazzaville.

Saturday 9th December – Brazzaville – Lesio Luna

Morning

• Breakfast at our hotel
• We’ll depart the capital and head north, towards the Lesio-Louna Reserve – the road trip is a great opportunity to capture the scenic landscape and see local villages on the way.
• Upon arrival, we’ll take a short walk along the Luna River and take in the surroundings of the jungle and meet the park rangers.
• Tour Highlight: probably one the best experience is seeing the mighty Silverback Gorillas – the duration of the hike really depends where the gorillas are located in the park. It’s important to listen to our ranger’s advice so we can get the most out of seeing them in their natural environment.

Afternoon

• Lunch at the Lesio-Louna Reserve
• It’s time for a safari trip – Lesio-Louna Reserve has a growing population of hippopotamus, forest buffalo, red river hog and several types of duiker as well as numerous other animals.
• We head back to Brazzaville after an intense day at the Nature Reserve.
• Dinner and drinks in the capital city.
• Overnight in Brazzaville.

Sunday 10th December – Brazzaville – Congo River

Morning

• Breakfast at hotel then we head for the almighty Congo River and take a boat cruise. Across the river, you can see Kinshasa and you can wave at the local fishermen along the river that you previously saw in the DRC.
• Mbamu Island, located between both Congo’s but part of Congo Brazzaville. It’s been declared a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), although don’t expect a North and South Korea type standoff.

Afternoon

• Lunch by the Congo River is an excellent opportunity to relax and take in the surroundings.
• You’ll get the chance to meet the fishermen at a local fishing village as well as have the opportunity to explore the village and take some photos.
• In the late afternoon we travel to see the Mangenge, these are majestic cliffs right next to the river which again offer a great chance to people watch and take photos of the river
• We’ll head back to Brazzaville on the Congo River, where we will eat at a popular fish restaurant before exploring the Brazzaville nightlife on our last day in the Republic of Congo.
• Overnight stay in Brazzaville.

Monday 11th December – Brazzaville and departure

• End of tour – YPT can arrange ongoing transport, extra accommodation, or airport transfer
