Join YPT for some real red tourism and travel to the unexplored hinterlands of the Communist Revolution!
This journey will take you from Beijing, the centre of Communist Party power, to the ancient capital of Xi’an, and then northward to Yan’an and Zichang – the revolutionary red bases of Chairman Mao, the Chinese Communist Party, and the Red Army. Along the way, you will trace the full historical arc of China’s New Democratic Revolution from the early workers’ movements to the War of Resistance Against Japan, then the Chinese Civil War, and finally the founding of the People’s Republic of China. You will also experience, within just eight days, China’s capital city, Tier 1 city, normal city, and rural county towns, offering you a truly comprehensive understanding of the country.
Led by YPT guides fluent in both Chinese and English, you will visit the former residence of Li Dazhao, one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party, and follow the historical trail to Mao Zedong’s Mausoleum. You will then head to Xi’an to visit the site where the Xi’an Incident took place, including the very cave where Chiang Kai-shek hid in his underpants from his own generals! In Yan’an, you will tour the Communist Party’s revolutionary-era headquarters and the cave dwellings where Mao Zedong personally lived, while also travelling between various revolutionary red bases to see the Party’s military university. Journey through the remote mountainous regions of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi, witnessing the harsh conditions endured by the Red Army during their marches, as well as the battlefields where they fought the Japanese and Chiang Kai-shek during World War II.
Moreover, we will visit the Liangjiahe Revolutionary Site, where China’s current President Xi Jinping was “sent down” during the Cultural Revolution and spent seven years as a farmer. The sacred status of this site is comparable to Mangyongdae in North Korea, allowing you to gain firsthand insight into the official Chinese narrative and the cultivation of Xi Jinping’s personality and charisma.
This tour is not only about revolutionary history; you will also experience China’s profound ancient heritage as well. You will visit the world-famous Terracotta Warriors, even cycle on Xi’an’s ancient city walls. In Zichang, a place with no sign of foreign tourists, see an authentic, well-preserved Qing Dynasty government compound and everyday artefacts in a real historical old town from the period when China was ruled by the Manchus. YPT’s China Revolutionary Red Base Tour is the only tour in this region offering a complete English-language service, making it the best choice for truly experiencing the revolutionary history of the Chinese Communist Party.
