While Egypt’s iconic pyramids and ancient temples draw millions of tourists each year, there’s a whole other side to this fascinating country, one that’s often overlooked. At YPT, we like to do things differently, so join us on our Alternative Egypt Tour and discover a different perspective on the Land of the Pharaoh.
Instead of the crowded tourist sites, we’ll venture into the heart of Cairo to explore its hidden gems. In the City of the Dead, a sprawling necropolis, you’ll see how the poorer classes of the country have made these historic tombs their homes. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the gritty reality of urban life in Cairo by visiting Garbage City. This neighbourhood, where waste is transformed into valuable resources, offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by the planet.
Obviously, a trip to Egypt cannot be complete without visiting any pyramids. While the Great Pyramids of Giza are undoubtedly impressive – and even we cannot avoid them so we’ll have a stop there – we’ll take you off the beaten path to explore the less-visited Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid at Dahshur. These ancient structures, with their unique architectural features, offer a glimpse into the evolution of pyramid building techniques.
Finally, to truly experience Egypt’s natural wonders, we’ll spend a night in a Bedouin camp in the White Desert. This surreal landscape, characterized by its beautiful chalk formations, is a photographer’s dream. You’ll have ample opportunity to explore the desert, hike through the rock formations, and stargaze at night.
Our Alternative Egypt tour can be combined with our Socotra Yemen Island October tour (12-20 October) and our Yemen Mainland Hadhramaut tour (October 25-30), to make the most out of your visit.
