Visiting The Edge Of The World in 2026

As much as it may sound like we are, this is not a declaration of support for the flat earth theory, where the world is flat and has specified regions where the world ends. But perhaps after visiting the Edge of the world, you may become a believer. The Edge of the World is a series of mountains and cliff faces in Saudi Arabia where the earth’s seemingly never ending expansion comes to an abrupt halt. To see it yourself is a must and visiting the edge of the world has never been so easy.

The Edge of the world, officially named Jebel Fihrayn (jebel meaning mountain) is a series of cliff formations with 300 meter direct and steep drops in the Tuwaiq Escarpment, located just 90km from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

In 2026, visiting the Edge of The World has gained popularity and below is all you need to know in order to visit.

Why is Visiting The Edge Of The World Gaining Popularity?

The Dramatic “End of the Earth” View

It sits along the towering Tuwaiq Escarpment, where sheer cliffs drop hundreds of meters onto a vast, flat desert plain. From the top, there are no buildings, roads, or visible settlements — just endless horizon — which creates the illusion that you’re standing at the edge of the world.

Unique Geology

The cliffs are made of ancient limestone and sandstone formed when the region was covered by a prehistoric sea. Fossils have been found in the rock, adding to its geological interest.

Distance from Riyadh

It’s only about 90 km from Riyadh, making it one of the most accessible dramatic desert landscapes in Saudi Arabia.

Social Media & Tourism Boom

As Saudi Arabia opened up to tourism in recent years, images of its cliffs at sunset went viral, turning it into one of the country’s most photographed natural landmarks.

As Saudi continues their push for increased tourism as a part of their 2030 vision, the Edge of the World offers a unique visit as the seemingly never ending expansion of desert feels outter worldly.

Adventure Appeal

Off-road driving, hiking, camping, and stargazing all add to its reputation as a must-visit outdoor destination.

How Can You Visit The Edge Of The World in 2026?

It is no longer permitted for tourists to visit the edge of the world solo. In October 2021 a vehicle carrying a handful of people plummeted from one of the steep cliff faces. Since then, local authorities have banned solo travel or unaccompanied trips to the edge of the world. While the site’s incredible views and cliffs attract many people, they also prove to be a real threat, particularly for people traveling who are not familiar with the roads or who are driving unsuitable vehicles.

The roads are unpaved and can be dangerous, particularly as people tend to return after sunset when nightfall is setting in. There are also no guard rails and the desert, arid in nature, can provide its own challenges in terms of weather.

Therefore it is a requirement to travel with a licensed tour operator who provides experienced drivers and 4×4 vehicles. All our tours to Saudi Arabia include visiting the Edge of the World.

Why 2026 Is The Year You Should Be Visiting The Edge Of The World

Saudi Arabia is quickly amping up their tourism industry, welcoming millions of tourists yearly. With this will come a price hike and busier sites.
