Strap yourself in for one of the wildest and most ambitious overland adventures on the African continent: an immersive journey through six West African nations rarely explored by outsiders.
Starting in the streets of Dakar, Senegal and winding our way through borders, jungles, and coastal capitals to Monrovia, Liberia, this trip will also go through Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea and Sierra Leone. It will take in everything from local markets and crumbling colonial outposts to slave forts, music-filled villages, chimpanzee sanctuaries and war-scarred monuments like the Ducor Palace in Liberia.
Along the way, we’ll stand beneath the Arch 22 in Banjul; visit the UNESCO-listed Kunta Kinteh Island; explore the Fortin de Boké and the old colonial structures of Guinea’s interior; walk around Bunce Island, one of the most important slave forts in West Africa; and chill on the pristine beaches of the Îles de Los and River No. 2 Beach.
You’ll travel by private vehicle through multiple border crossings, sail to remote islands, party in local bars, and get up close with living history. Expect intense cultural engagement, beautiful landscapes, powerful stories and good vibes on some of West Africa’s most beautiful beaches.
This is West Africa, a place where tourism is still in its infancy and where things don’t always go to plan, but that’s half the fun. This tour is perfect for those who have seen a bit of the world already and are ready to go further. With expert local guides and an experienced YPT leader handling the chaos behind the scenes, you’ll be free to enjoy the ride.
