Step off the map and join us for an adventure that traces the Equator through three of Africa’s most untouched countries: the Central African Republic (CAR), Gabon, and São Tomé. Together they form an expedition through the seldom-seen centre of Africa, a region defined by immense forests, remote rivers, volcanic peaks, and diverse cultures.
We will begin deep inland in the Central African Republic, a country where few travellers venture. In Bangui, we will trace the banks of the Ubangi River and see the city’s colonial relics and lively markets. Beyond the capital, we will journey to the thundering Boali Falls and the forest communities of Mbaiki, where pygmy groups maintain centuries-old traditions.
Crossing west to Gabon, we will swap savannah for rainforest and river for ocean. Libreville, the cosmopolitan capital, will be our gateway to Gabonese culture and spirituality, as we participate in a mystic Bwiti ceremony. In the coastal Pongara and Akanda National Parks, we will encounter the natural side of the country: mangroves, forest elephants, and sea turtles.
Finally, the adventure concludes across the water on São Tomé, a volcanic island suspended on the Equator. Here, time slows. We will wander among the remnants of Portuguese plantations, dive into the island’s coffee and chocolate traditions, and stand before the surreal spire of Pico de Cão Grande.
This combined tour offers a passage along the Equator through three distinct worlds, from Central Africa’s heartland to its lush coastal jungles and finally to an island paradise where the continent seems to exhale.
The three countries can also be visited independently: Central African Republic Essentials Tour (1495€), Untamed Gabon Adventure (2795€) and Sao Tome and Principe Tour (1495€).
