Introduction
Sri Lanka is not exactly off the beaten path, but its recent civil war history and quirky travel opportunities mean it is a place we do enjoy running tours to.
Sri Lanka can of course be travelled independently, but if you need that extra bit of comfort in your planning and want to get as far off the beaten track there as possible then YPT can arrange independent travel in Sri Lanka for you.
Private Guide Sri Lanka
We work with top quality local guides in Colombo and other parts of the island, including of course the Tamil north with its civil war sites. All are fully bilingual and can be hired as part of a package or individually.
Tailor-made Tours of Sri Lanka
YPT can arrange any type of tour to suit your needs in Sri Lanka. The route we recommend most is the circular one starting in Colombo and heading north to Jaffna, the main Tamil city, via Anuradhapura, an archaeologically rich city, before looping down the east coast via war sites to Trincomalee. You then head back to Colombo via the beach and the UNESCO heritage site of Kandy, the spiritual and geographic centre of Sri Lanka.
Dark Tourism
The memories of the civil war are not far from the surface in Sri Lanka and our tours generally include sites from the war between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tiger rebels. We visit the Jaffna Fort and GA office, Valvettithurai and Palali amongst others.
Train Rides
On our tours we generally travel the last leg from Kandy to Colombo by train, the mountain scenery, viaducts and general experience is just amazing!
Cycling Tours
YPT can arrange cycling trips within various cities which we think is a great way to see the local areas.
Beaches and Elephants
While we don’t promote these traditional tourist activities directly, on our tours we do visit secluded beaches and can organize trips to elephant orphanages and parks.
