Biblical characters such as Abraham, Job, Moses, Ruth, Elijah, John the Baptist, Jesus Christ and Paul, to name a few, are said to have travelled here. It is no surprise that there are a lot of religious sites to visit in Jordan and in the neighbouring countries: Jericho, the Mount of Olives, Bethany, Madaba, Mount Nebo…

Food tours to Jordan

We, at YPT, are huge fans of food and street food. And falafel is one of our favourites. Jordanian food is delicious and affordable: on our food tours, you can try dishes like Mansaf, made of lamb served on rice with a creamy yogurt sauce and pine nuts; falafel, a deep-fried chickpea fritter; musakhan, a flatbread topped with chicken, onions, and spices; hummus or different kinds of mezze.

Thanks to its tight connections, YPT can also get you into the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX), which is normally closed to tourists. Frequently asked questions about travel to Jordan

Citizens of most other countries and territories can obtain a visa on arrival at Jordanian airports as well as at the Jordan/Israel border for those travelling from Israel by land. Visas on arrival are not issued at the Wadi Araba/south border or Allenby/King Hussein Bridge.

It is also possible to obtain an e-visa.

Visitors on a single-entry visa can visit Jordan for up to one month. A single-entry visa costs 40 JOD (to be paid by cash on arrival, or by credit card in case of an e-visa).
The best time to visit Jordan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is pleasant with warm days (temperatures in the 20s°C) and cool nights. It's ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities without the scorching summer heat. Winter (December to February) can be cold, with snow in the mountains and even in Petra.
As far as crime is concerned, Jordan is generally considered safe for tourists. It is also a relatively stable country, especially compared to its neighbors. The tourism industry is a major source of income for the country, and Jordanians are generally welcoming and hospitable towards tourists. The main danger in Jordan is traffic. Road accidents are frequent, due in particular to speeding, overtaking, poor road signs, and the fact that traffic and road safety rules are simply not applied by most drivers.
The currency is the Jordanian dinar (JOD). Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger stores in urban areas. However, it's advisable to carry cash, especially in rural areas and for smaller purchases.
Travelers are advised to check with their healthcare provider for vaccinations. Common vaccinations that are recommended include Hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and routine vaccinations. Jordan has a warm climate, so it's important to drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration: stick to bottled or boiled water. Also, protect yourself from the sun: wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, sunglasses, and a hat.
While Jordan is becoming more relaxed, especially in larger cities, dressing modestly is still recommended, particularly outside major tourist areas. For women, loose-fitting clothing that covers shoulders and knees is advisable. Men must also avoid sleeveless shirts and shorts. Shorts are only accepted in main tourist areas. Women should cover their heads, arms and legs when entering religious buildings. It's customary to remove shoes before entering someone's home or a mosque. Avoid excessive hugging or kissing in public spaces. Bargaining is expected at markets. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated: a small tip (10-15%) is customary for good service at restaurants.
Getting a SIM card is cheap and easy in Jordan. You can find pre-paid packages in the arrivals section of Queen Alia International Airport or in multiple shops around the country. A 20 GB Orange Jordan prepaid sim card typically costs around 15 JOD ($21). It is also possible to buy an e-SIM before travelling to the country.
