Cheburashka is a mysterious creature who lives in a tropical jungle, he has no biological classifications adding to his uniqueness. He appears small and furry with large floppy ears, which adds to his charm and cuteness. Even the name “Cheburashka,” comes from the Russian verb “чебурахнуться” which translates to “to tumble” or “to fall over.” This perfectly reflects his clumsiness when he first appeared disorientated and stumbling out of crate oranges in an unknown Russian city, although many believe it to be Moscow.
Who are Cheburashka’s friends?
Cheburashka is often with Gena the Crocodile, a zoo employee who wears a hat, a bow tie, and a coat plays the accordion, and occasionally smokes the pipe. He is portrayed as Cheburashka’s best friend.
Another character is Shapoklyak a mischievous old lady who is accompanied by her pet rat, Larusya who is often an accomplice in her mischief. Shapoklyak thrives on causing mischief and trouble but is reformed by the end of the stories, this reflects the moral lessons about redemption.
