Embark with YPT on a journey to discover the soul of Ethiopia – a land of ancient empires, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant traditions. Your journey with us kicks off in Addis Ababa, the capital where centuries-old heritage pulses beneath the rhythm of modern life.
You’ll visit Bahir Dar, a charming town nestled on the shores of Lake Tana. Here, you’ll explore serene island monasteries steeped in history and witness the majestic Blue Nile Falls, one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular natural wonders.
As we pass through the Amhara and Tigray regions, you’ll get to experience the traditional way of life in the villages, immersing yourself in their customs and rich cultural traditions.
Once arriing in Gondar, you’ll step back in time exploring ancient churches and majestic castles, impressive remnants of Ethiopia’s imperial past. These historic sites tell the story of a bygone empire, offering a glimpse into the grandeur and rich heritage that shaped the region.
Our journey continues into the stunning Simien Mountains, home to towering peaks and dramatic highlands, with several summits rising above 4000 meters, including Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest point and the fourth tallest mountain in Africa. We’ll explore the Afro-Alpine landscapes of the national park, where temperatures drop below freezing at night and the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. Along the way, we may spot some rare and endemic wildlife such as the Walia Ibex, Gelada Baboon, and the Simien Fox.
Continuing along the historic route, we arrive in Lalibela, a World Heritage listed town set high in craggy mountains. Famous for its awe-inspiring 12th and 13th century churches carved entirely from solid rocks and connected by a network of underground passageways, Lalibela shows off the amazing skill and creativity of Ethiopian architecture, blending history and faith in a truly unforgettable way.
The Group A tour concludes in Addis Ababa with a vibrant celebration of Ethiopian culture, an evening of traditional cuisine, live music, and dancing.
Don’t miss out and continue with us on our Group B extension – here you’ll venture into one of the most otherworldly landscapes on Earth – the Danakil Depression. This extraordinary region, with its vibrant sulphur springs, acid pools, and vast salt flats stretching to the horizon. We’ll journey deeper into a volcanic wonderland, exploring active lava lakes, colourful mineral deposits, ancient salt mines, and overnighting along the craters edge of a volcano.
Make the most out of your visit to this region of Africa and continue your adventure with us to South Sudan.
