Join us in Bujumbura the capital city of Burundi where your journey beings, following the footsteps of European explorers David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley and encounter the monument where history took place with the famous question from Stanley “Doctor Livingstone I presume?” – A pivotal point in history which paved the way for European imperial expansion and colonisation in the region. You’ll get to experience the impressive Gishora drummer’s and visit their village and learn about their cultural importance in the region.
Your journey continues into the second largest country in Africa the DRC – also the least touristy country on the continent. Our adventure takes you deep into a tropical forest to find the troop and mighty silverback gorillas in their natural habitat – a genuine close and personal encounter! You’ll get to experience the vibrant cities of Goma and Bukavu which lies at opposite ends of the beautiful Lake Kivu. Another key aspect of your journey will be visiting the Pygmies village on an inland island, seeing how they practice their traditional way of life.
Time for a change of scenery and you’ll experience the “Singapore of Africa” when you cross over to Rwanda into the capital Kigali, with its troubled and unfortunate past this jewel of a country is at the forefront of progression and development which really reflects on the warmth and hospitality you will receive – it’s also a nice break to rest before continuing deeper into East Africa!
Next step of your adventure, we’ll be heading towards Uganda – We’ll celebrate crossing the equator by foot a key moment for any traveller! Your next few days will be at the beautiful reserve of Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) and take our chances seeing the big five! Your adventure ends in the vibrant diverse city of Kampala which we will make the most of!
Winston Churchill once described Uganda as “the Pearl of Africa” for its stunning beauty, various wildlife and diversity. We’ll dive deep into post-colonial rule, where we visit one of the most brutal dictators – Idi Amin’s often referred to as the “butcher of Uganda” and see his personal Torture Chambers.
Covering the best of East Africa this tour is truly unique and unlike many others, experiencing indigenous culture and the opportunity to trek deep into the forest to see the mighty silverback gorillas as well as encountering the big 5 – Leopards, Lions, Rhinos, Buffalo and the Bush Elephants!
