Just behind these elevator doors tourists are treated to a spectacular 360 degree view of Pyongyang.

A North Korean waitress performs the classic song "Nice to Meet You or 반갑습니다" which is quite possibly the most memorable and archetypal North Korean pop song that will likely stay with you long after your tour is over.
For the uninitiated traveller to North Korea for the first time, learning at least the chorus to this song, which translates as “nice to meet you,” is always a well-received surprise for your Korean guides. Not only that, the song is catchy as hell and the sentiment behind the lyrics goes a long way in providing a positive cultural exchange between the DPRK and us as their visitors.

An always friendly smiling worker greets commuters as they make their way down into the Pyongyang Metro.
The Pyongyang Metro is a living and breathing organism of the city. Although it has incredibly vibrant and charming characteristics, it can also be rather intense during peak hour with an average of 300,000 to 600,000 passengers each day. It’s certainly one of the major highlights for many foreign visitors whilst visiting North Korea.
The metro system is considered the deepest metro in the world, buried 100 meters below the surface. It consists of two lines, the Chollima line and Hyoksin line with 16 subway stations in total. It operates solely on the west side of Pyongyang – within the more developed districts. The depth of the metro helps keep the temperature to a comfortable level of 20°C (68°F) throughout the year, as the local Korean guides say “cool in summer and warm in winter”.

The Chongsan-ri Cooperative Farm is the most famous farm in North Korea. It was first visited by Kim Il Sung, the former leader and the founder of North Korea back in 1960. At this time the DPRK government focused their efforts on making this particular cooperative farm the ideal model farm for the entire nation for others to learn the techniques taught to the local farmers here.
These techniques we later called and now known to farmers as the Chongsan-ri Method. The Chongsanri method is as the North Koreans put it “the embodiment and development of the revolutionary mass line, a tradition of the Workers’ Party of Korea, adapted to the new realities of socialist construction.”
The term cooperative farm means hundreds sometimes thousands of North Korean families working together on land provided by the DPRK government to produce a single crop or multiple crops. The government gives the cooperative farm a targeted quota to reach each year. The more effort the families put into farming, the more they’re able to benefit from the number of crops they grow. Villages and towns are built for the locals as the farmland surrounds their livelihood.
