Following our South-East Asia Adventure, this Luang Prabang (Laos) extension will allow you to continue discovering this beautiful region. Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an outstanding example of the fusion of traditional architecture and Lao urban structures with those built by the European colonial authorities in the 19th and 20th centuries.
During the trip, you’ll see this unique, remarkably well-preserved townscape. You’ll also rise with the monks for a glimpse of the alms-giving ceremony, visit enchanting temple and laid-back streets lined with colourful shops, lose yourself in the electrifying night market and dedicate some time to nature, chasing cascading waters at Kuang Si Falls. This Luang Prabang escape promises non-stop thrills and a taste of Laotian magic!

Itinerary
DAY 1 – Friday July 26th – Luang Prabang
- Arrival in Luang Prabang at 2pm from out Ultimate South East Asia Adventure (flight cost not included)
- Our pre-arranged airport pick-up will take us directly to the UXO Visitor’s Centre, which documents the devastation that Laos suffered during the Second Indochina War.
- Next, we’ll explore the 16th century Wat Visoun temple, known for its enormous stupa and its collection of old gilded Buddhas.
- We’ll finish the day visiting the Traditional Art and Ethnology Centre (TAEC), the only independent resource centre in Laos dedicated to the country’s many and diverse ethnic groups.
- Overnight in the Villa Chitdara Hotel in Luang Prabang
DAY 2 – Saturday July 27th – Luang Prabang – Kuang Si Waterfalls
- Luang Prabang is known to be one of the best-preserved traditional cities in Southeast Asia. The tranquillity and tropical charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most alluring destinations in Laos!
- After breakfast, we’ll start with a trip to the Morning Market, a lively street where locals stock up on all sorts of interesting supplies, from colourful vegetables to live frogs.
- Then we’ll step from the energy of the market into the serene calm of one of the city’s most sumptuous monasteries, Wat Mai, and, afterwards, to the former King’s Palace, now the National Museum. There, you’ll learn about the past and present of Luang Prabang.
- From there, we will visit the beautiful and ancient Wat Xieng Thong temple, with its spectacular low sweeping stylistic roof.
Afternoon
- We’ll have lunch at the famous Kuang Si waterfalls and you can swim in the pools or walk along beautiful jungle paths.
- At the waterfall, you may visit the Bear Rescue Center, which hosts rescued bears in large, open grounds where you can see these beautiful animals and learn about the efforts to save them from traditional medicine harvesting.
- Return by vehicle to Luang Prabang by late afternoon after a wonderful day tour to the best of Luang Prabang World Heritage City.
- Overnight in Luang Prabang
DAY 03 – Sunday July 28th – Khmu Village – Tad Sae Waterfall
- After breakfast, you’ll ride about 30 minutes to the banks of the Nam Khan River, cross the river by boat and then begin an easy, 1.5-hour trek through beautiful jungle canopy, stopping along the way to explore a large, traditional Khmu village nestled in the mountains.
- You may enjoy lunch here or wait until you reach the waterfall, depending on the time and you preference.
- After the village visit, you’ll continue trekking about 1.5 hours down to the Tad Sae Waterfall, where you may explore and swim.
- Finally, board a long boat again for a short cruise downriver and then on to a vehicle for return to Luang Prabang city.
- Return time is approximately 2:00 p.m.
- Tour concludes. Airport drop-off can be arranged.
