We ventured into #Object1180, an underground command post in #Moldova designed to protect people from nuclear radiation in the event of an emergency. Its construction began in 1985 and was near completion by the end of 1991. However, with the dissolution of the #SovietUnion, it was left abandoned. It's slowly being dismantled, so it seems like it'll be gone within a few years. If you want to visit before that happens, you can book a tour such as the May 2022 Ultimate Transnistria Victory Day Tour that has this nuclear survival #bunker in its itinerary.

Although #Algeria is most commonly compared to other French-speaking countries in North Africa, it is far from being exposed to mass tourism like its neighbours Morocco and Tunisia. Whilst Algeria is large we will be covering a lot of land by exploring the incredibly preserved ancient Roman ruins of #Djemila, visiting the majestic ‘City of Bridges’ of #Constantine, and boarding a domestic flight to the mysterious traditional villages of #Ghardaia – the gateway to the #Sahara, with every day bringing you a variety of different unique experiences.
The tour then concludes after a domestic flight to the coastal city of #Oran, the second largest and most important part of the country, where we will not only explore both French and Spanish colonial era architecture, but sample incredible local food and take in the scenic seafront.

It is well-known that Sino-Soviet relations soured not so long afterwards, with China denouncing the Soviet Union as revisionist (having stripped socialism of its revolutionary content). Less known is the fact that #Albania was another country that took this position, and hence refused to destalinize like other socialist countries around it. It's no secret that we love trains, whether it's the journey from Beijing to Pyongyang or the Trans-Siberian #railroad. Lesser known to many is the world's longest and heaviest #train - the iron ore train of #Mauritania. So what is it like? Are there hard sleepers? Soft sleepers? Is there a dining car?
The answer is you'll be riding inside of open top cars on top of the minerals, and will camp outdoors in the #Sahara on a moving train overnight as you go from #Choum to #Nouadhibou.
