Our Argentina tours are much more than the gateway to our Antarctica cruises. The birth country of Che Guevara has it all, from the European-inspired capital of Buenos Aires to the vast, untamed wilderness of Patagonia. 

Join YPT for unique Argentina tours, following the steps of El Che as we move around the country, seeing its colonial past, the impressive Iguazu falls, indulge in delicious asado (barbecue), savor the finest Malbec wines, and understand the complex political and economic situation of the country.

Group Tours to Argentina

We aren’t currently running tours to Argentina, but we’re always expanding our scope of destinations so check this page and our social media accounts regularly to get all the news.

However, YPT currently proposes one group tour per year to Antarctica, setting sail from Ushuaia.

Independent Tours to Argentina

Having run tours to Argentina for many years, Young Pioneer Tours have been able to create a great network of local partners, hotels, guides and off-the-beaten-track itineraries and activities for Argentina. Prices depend on the number of people and what level of accommodation you desire, but YPT can arrange everything you need for perfect independent Argentina tours.

As such, we can arrange independent and bespoke travel packages to Argentina, either as standalone, or as part of wider latin american packages.

Example of an Argentina Itinerary (8 days, 7 nights)

Day 1 – Buenos Aires

  • Arrive at your convenience into Buenos Aires, the capital city and most populated city in Argentina which is well connected from many countries
  • Pre-tour meeting will be held at the lobby of your hotel at 6:00pm to discuss the tour itinerary and to meet your guide.
  • Dinner, drinks and overnight in Buenos Aires.

Day 2 – Buenos Aires

  • Early Breakfast in hotel to make the most of our day in Buenos Aires
  • We will start our day with a short drive to the Park of Memory, dedicated to the victims of state-sponsored terrorism of the dictatorship (1976 to 1983). We’ll also visit the museum, located in a former detention site. 
  • We’ll then head to the centre, where we will visit the famous Plaza de Mayo and the National congress among other landmarks.

Afternoon

  • We’ll have lunch in Pizzeria Guerrín, the most famous pizzeria in Buenos Aires, that opened in 1932.  
  • We’ll walk past the Colon theatre and visit El Ateneo Grand Splendid, where one of the most beautiful libraries in the world is located.
  • We’ll visit the Recoleta neighbourhood, with its cemetery full of huge mausoleums. A lot of famous and relevant Argentinians are buried there, including Eva Perón.
  • Dinner, drinks and overnight in Beirut.

Day 3  – Buenos Aires – Rosario

  • After Breakfast in the hotel, we’ll drive around 3 hours to Rosario.
  • Rosario is the birthplace of Che Guevara, so we’ll be visiting his natal house, then we’ll head to the Che square, with a statue and murals.
  • We’ll visit the CelChe (Center of Latin American studies Che Guevara), which holds an exhibition about him.

Afternoon

  • Lunch in a traditional restaurant.
  • After, we’ll head to the garden El Rosedal. In this place, the first picture of Che and his parents was taken. We’ll learn about the earliest days of the revolutionary. We’ll also visit the independence square, where he started his motorbike journey around latin america. 
  • Dinner, drinks and overnight in Rosario.

Day 4 – Rosario – Córdoba

  • Early Breakfast in the hotel and make our way to Cordoba, which will take us around 4 hours.
  • We’ll walk around this often overlooked city in Argentina, home of the oldest university in Latin America and many well preserved colonial buildings and churches.

Afternoon

  • Lunch in a traditional restaurant 
  • We’ll visit la Manzana Jesuítica, an urban block declared world heritage by UNESCO. We’ll check a monument commemorating the fighters for the Falkland islands (Islas Malvinas as they are known in Argentina). We’ll finish by walking down la Cañada, a promenade by the river 
  • Dinner, drinks and overnight in Cordoba.

Day 5 – Córdoba – Alta Gracia – Iguazú

  • After breakfast in the hotel, we’ll take a short drive to Alta Gracia. Che Guevara lived part of his childhood in this town, and we’ll visit his museum. 
  • We’ll walk around the town’s centre, visiting Tajamar, a dike built in 1659, and the public clock tower.

Afternoon

  • We’ll grab some lunch before returning to Cordoba
  • Transfer to the airport to take our flight to Iguazú, next to the borders with Paraguay and Brazil.
  • After our hotel check-in, we’ll head out for dinner and drinks
  • Overnight in Puerto Iguazú

Day 6 – Iguazú 

  • After breakfast, we’ll head to the famous waterfall of Iguazu, at the border with Brazil. 
  • We’ll take the superior hike. It takes about 1.5 hour to complete and goes through the best view points.
  • Get ready to get a little wet as we discover the waterfalls from below in a speed boat trip

Afternoon

  • Lunch at the park
  • We’ll take the train to Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) and we’ll walk on the steel platform to have amazing views
  • We’ll return to Puerto Iguazú, to rest a bit.
  • Dinner, drink and overnight at Puerto iguazú

Day 7 Iguazu – Buenos Aires

  • After having breakfast we’ll drive around 2 hours southway to Caraguatay. There we’ll visit the Che Guevara Provincial park. Che and his family lived in Caraguatay before moving to Cordoba. 
  • We’ll visit the museum and library there, and as walking around the park. We’ll get a drink in the Che themed bar.

Afternoon

  • We’ll grab lunch on our drive back to Puerto Iguazú.
  • Transfer to the airport for our afternoon flight to Buenos Aires
  • After checking in our hotel, we’ll head for our farewell dinner, an asado, the Argentinan-style barbecue and for those inclined, farewell drinks
  • Overnight in Buenos Aires. 

Day 8 – Buenos Aires

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Tour concludes – YPT is also able to arrange post-tour accommodation or advice for flights.

Ushuaia

Ushuaia is the most austral city and gateway to Antarctica. If you want a tour in the region before joining one of our cruises to Antarctica or if you want to visit it as a standalone trip, this region offer beautiful landscapes. Tierra del Fuego is the only national park in Argentina that combines the sea, rivers, mountains and forests. There, you can find both hiking and canoeing opportunities to see penguins, sea lions and much more.

Salta and Jujuy

The northern region of Argentina, sometimes skipped by travellers, has many wonder. One of them is El Tren de las Nubes (the Cloud train) that runs over the highest viaduct in the world, 4.200 m above sea level! 

There are salt flats and colourful mountains, just like in Bolivia and Peru, but way less crowded, that are worth visiting. Deserts with huge cactus, scraped mountains, old Spanish forts and the chance of trying llama meat are some of the experience of the region. The city of Salta also some of the best preserved mummies in the world.

Patagonia Tours

Our Patagonia bespoke tours allow you to go deep into the heart of the region, offering encounters with towering mountains, vast glaciers, and pristine wilderness. From the dramatic peaks of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile to the mesmerizing ice fields of Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina, we can organize treks, kayak trips or rafting, for you to witness the grandeur of nature up close. The town of El Calafate serves as a gateway to the latter, offering a mix of adventure and relaxation.

Argentina is famous for its glaciers, the most famous being the Perito Moreno. Hiking, kayaking are the most popular options to experience it. You can also do a cruise to not only see this one, but others like Spegazzini. 

More about Che Guevara

Follow the footsteps of the iconic revolutionary with our bespoke tour. It covers his birthplace, childhood home, and university years in Buenos Aires and Córdoba. The tour then ventures into Patagonia, where Guevara found inspiration in nature. A key component is a motorcycle tour that retraces the route of Che and Alberto Granado’s famous journey, visiting key locations from “The Motorcycle Diaries.” The itinerary also includes opportunities to engage with local history and culture, providing a deeper understanding of Guevara’s life and impact.

Filming in Argentina

Through our media arm Pioneer Media, we can make arrangements for productions, journalists, or others, to film within Argentina from big budget to guerrilla productions. We can also arrange meetings in country, as well as correct visas for journalist wishing to do projects within the country.

Frequently asked questions about travel to Argentina

Most of nationalities don't require a visa if they stay for 90 days or less, the full list can be found here
The best time to visit Argentina is from March to May and from September to November, autumn and spring. However, if you plan to go to Patagonia from November/December to March/April, the rest of the year the climate is very harsh.
Precautions should always be taken in Buenos Aires and other major cities, like in any other city, avoid displaying your passport, large sums of cash and valuables. Pay attention when visiting lower economic areas and avoid wandering alone at night. Always listen to the advice of your guides, especially when visiting Mendoza and Rosario.
The currency of Argentina is the Argentine peso (ARS) Argentina suffers from a severe inflation and rates change often and quickly. It is advised to bring cash (USD) and exchange in the “blue market” Argentina’s informal currency exchange, money can be exchanged in the “Cuevas” (caves in spanish) they use the unofficial rate and you will get better value, your YPT guide will help you during this process. In Calle Florida, a street in Buenos Aires, you can exchange money in the street at a good rate.

Avoid using ATMs as the fees can be very high and only to get a small amount of cash. Some restaurants and businesses will accept USD, so you don’t need to exchange all the cash. Even Though credit and debit cards are widely accepted, it's not recommended to use them as they will charge you the official rate.

If you don’t feel comfortable carrying large amounts of cash, western union is available and a good option to send yourself USD

The new president of Argentina, Javier Milei, devalued the currency and started a dollarization of the country, so the situation is in constant change.
There are no compulsory vaccines to enter Argentina. However, travellers are advised to check with their healthcare provider for vaccinations. Common recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A and B, Poli, and routine vaccinations.

The yellow fever vaccine is recommended when travelling to northern regions of the country or to Iguazú Falls.
There are no clothing restrictions in Argentina, it can get very cold in the south region, and it's advised to pack accordingly.
You can get a SIM card when arriving at the airport, also they are sold in mobile provider stores, alternatively, you can get an ESIM on Airalo. There is WiFi in most hotels, restaurants and cafes. Note that in most rural areas the signal could be weak.
