We now push deeper into Northeast India, the next phase of our adventure picks up immediately after our Sikkim Forgotten Kingdom Tour, heading into the untamed regions of Assam and Shillong.
Your journey with us can either begin in Siliguri, before boarding a breathtaking seven hour train journey into Guwahati, the gateway to Assam. Or you may join us directly in Guwahati. From here, we leave the usual tourist trail behind and push into dense jungle landscapes as we cross into Shillong, often referred to as the “Scotland of India.” With its rolling hills, dramatic viewpoints, and remnants of colonial architecture, this region offers some of the most striking scenery anywhere in the Republic of India.
| Group | Start Date | End Date | Duration | Cost | Single Supplement |
| Commencing in Siliguri (with train) | July 15th | July 23rd | 9 days | $1495 | $320 |
| Commencing in Guwahati | July 16th | July 23rd | 8 days | $1395 | $280 |
From here we head to Cherrapunji, which is known as the wettest place on earth, and is home to stunning natural beauty, such as waterfalls and the like. Here we’ll not only take in the incredible nature, but also spend time interacting with, and learning about the many tribes of the region, as well as visiting the 2003 “cleanest village in the world”. This is India, but not as you know it.
The tour concludes with what is arguably the highlight of the journey: Kaziranga National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga is one of the best places on Earth to see the one-horned rhinoceros in its natural habitat, alongside elephants, buffalo, and an extraordinary array of birdlife.
This expedition is offered by Young Pioneer Tours as our first research trip into the region. What does that mean? We’ll be learning on the ground. Some things will run perfectly, others less so but that’s the essence of true pioneering travel. As a research departure, this trip is offered at a significantly reduced cost compared to future editions and is initially available exclusively to returning pioneers.
We expect this to be a small compact group, with guests able to combine it with Sikkim, and our Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal combo tour.
