Rason Tourism Research Tour
Join us for our very first tour of the year to the Rason Special Economic Zone of North Korea. As our first tour of what we hope to be a very busy year for us in Rason, our partners in the zone have arranged lots of extras for us during the trip, with us staying in a selection of hotels in both Rason and Yanji, as well meeting numerous individuals participating in the tourist industry in the zone.
This tour would be of particular interest to people who have already been to the DPRK “mainland”, and wish to step really off the beaten track. Those people interested in the opening up of the DPRK economy (we can arrange business meetings for those joining the tour), and anyone with an interest in seeing this very unique part of the country.
€550 4 nights, 5 days (3,4 Rason, 1,2 Yanji) Yanji – Rason – Yanji.
Tour originates and ends in Yanji, Yanbian Korean Autonomous prefecture, which is easily accessable from a number of North-Eastern Chinese cities by train or bus and from Beijing and Shanghai by flight. If you would like YPT to arrange internal Chinese transport for you, please e-mail us.
February 27th (Mon)
- Arrive in Yanji, pick up from airport or train station
- Transfer to LiuJin Hotel (North Korea owned hotel)
- Dinner (your own expense) with free performance (by North Korea performancers)
- Overnight at LiuJin Hotel
28th (Tue)
Morning
- Cross border Wongjong Bridge and meet North Korea guide
- Drive to Rason city
- Lunch
Afternoon
- Rajin Port
- Kimilsungia Greenhouse
- Central square of Rajin city
- Local Rajin market (the only local open market you are allowed to visit in the DPRK)
- Dinner in Noodle house
- Overnight at Rajin Hotel
29th (Wed)
Morning
- Hiking on Mt. Shahyang (Muskdeer Mountain)
- Find Slogan-bearing trees
- Lunch at noodle house
Afternoon
- Haeyang Village, Revolution site (Fisherman’s house and farmer’s house)
- Rajin Triangle Bank (The bank staff will explain the different system between Triangle bank and the rest of the banks in the DPRK, you will have a chance to exchange some North Korea Won at the best exchange rate in the DPRK)
- Souvenir shop
- Foreign language bookshop
- Seafood market (indoor market)
- Art Gallery
- Dinner
- Overnight at Rajin Hotel
1st March (Thurs)
Morning
- Pipha Tourist Resort
- Take a boat to see the seal (optional, extra 100 RMB) – the only Nature Reservation in the DPRK
- Seafood lunch

- Relaxing and swimming
- BBQ dinner
- Overnight at Chujin Beach Hotel
2nd March (Fri)
Morning
- Sonbong City
- Sonbong Kindergarten
- Revolutionary site (old Sonbong Port where General Kim Jong Il first came back to the DPRK after the Japanese War)
Afternoon
- Picnic lunch
- Tumangang City (the border of three countries: DPRK, China and Russia)
- Sungjondae (Victory Monument of Gerneral Li Sun Xin who was a hero of Naval warfare and invented the Turtle boat)
- Cross the border
- Drive back to Yanji
- End of tour.
